Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers let Gabriel fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Dillon Gabriel slide 102 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In slot 11 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Somehow Jalon Walker was still sitting there in the 43rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalen Royals in No. 75. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston in pick 100 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick113 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick138 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton at Round 4, Pick 36 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick147 Rnd5 Joshua Farmer
Circle this one: Joshua Farmer at the 147th pick is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick187 Rnd6 Kobe King
Steal is underselling it; Kobe King at pick No. 187 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick226 Rnd7 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant in No. 226 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Pick230 Rnd7 Dillon Gabriel
Taking Dillon Gabriel in Round 7, Pick 14 is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249 Rnd7 Carson Vinson
Carson Vinson in the 249th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick252 Rnd7 Trevor Etienne
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Trevor Etienne in the 252nd overall pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
