Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC+ FutureB
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the 49ers.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent Round 4, Pick 39 on Zane Durant, a name most had 38 spots down the list. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.

However the rest shakes out, Jones at that price is a win they earned. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Sonny Styles
In the Round 1 slot they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, outstanding value to boot.
Pick58 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A.J. Haulcy is a better player than pick 58 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick112 Rnd4 Logan Jones
They barely believed it either: Logan Jones still on the board at the 112th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Good price on Bryce Lance in slot 127, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick131 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
Davison Igbinosun at Round 4, Pick 31 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick133 Rnd4 Dametrious Crownover
Dametrious Crownover in No. 133 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138 Rnd4 Kaleb Proctor
Kaleb Proctor at pick 138 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick139 Rnd4 Zane Durant
Zane Durant at the 139th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick152 Rnd5 Marlin Klein
A wild overpay on Marlin Klein in No. 152, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick212 Rnd6 Zavion Thomas
They went early on Zavion Thomas in Round 6, Pick 31, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
