Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureB-
The phones sank the Seahawks this weekend: D-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Seahawks started one anyway for Thor Griffith, 46 picks ahead of schedule.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Campbell where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a wrecking ball inside. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
They barely believed it either: Jalon Walker still on the board at pick No. 50. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
The board fumbled Jihaad Campbell all the way to No. 82, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They read the board right and Andrew Mukuba was the payoff at the 87th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick89
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm in the 89th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122
Rnd4
Jake Majors
Circle this one: Jake Majors at pick 122 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Mason Taylor
Steal is underselling it; Mason Taylor at Round 4, Pick 25 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick136
Rnd4
Hayden Conner
They liked Hayden Conner enough to skip the value, taking him in the 136th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick171
Rnd5
O'Donnell Fortune
This one needs a full-page explanation: O'Donnell Fortune in pick No. 171, miles early. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick183
Rnd6
Theo Wease Jr.
Theo Wease Jr. in pick 183 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick210
Rnd6
Clay Webb
They paid up for Clay Webb at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick234
Rnd7
Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith in slot 234 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
