The Steelers cashed the board's mistake on Rosemy-Jacksaint: B-. Somebody in Round 7, Pick 20 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
The Rattler pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Foster pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher, running back and other spots still on the board.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In slot 20 they get protection for the quarterback, even if it was a touch early. More want than need.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Legette in the 51st pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick84
Rnd3
Spencer Rattler
A big swing on Spencer Rattler at the Round 3 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A want over a need in pick 119: Javon Foster adds an offensive lineman while edge rusher, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick137
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
Chau Smith-Wade in the 137th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180
Rnd6
Marist Liufau
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Marist Liufau at Round 6, Pick 5. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick195
Rnd6
Myles Murphy
Myles Murphy in pick No. 195 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick231
Rnd7
Josh Proctor
They paid up for Josh Proctor at No. 231 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick240
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
A wide receiver of that caliber at slot 240 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
