Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Kingsley Eguakun at the 215th overall pick is 84 spots clear of where he belonged. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Newton pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback still on the board. The Fuaga steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They left with offensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Taliese Fuaga
Value with a capital V on Taliese Fuaga in slot 31, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick63 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
They paid sticker price for Christian Haynes in Round 2, Pick 31, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Jarrian Jones
They liked Jarrian Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in the 124th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in pick No. 131; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick133 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
A conviction pick on Justin Eboigbe at the 133rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick135 Rnd4 Josh Newton
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Josh Newton adds a cornerback and leaves quarterback untouched.
Pick176 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
They paid up for Cornelius Johnson at the 176th pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick211 Rnd6 Nathaniel Watson
Nathaniel Watson in slot 211 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick215 Rnd6 Kingsley Eguakun
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kingsley Eguakun. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251 Rnd7 Trajan Jeffcoat
They talked themselves into Trajan Jeffcoat at the 251st overall pick, and the board did not agree. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
