Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB- TradesF FutureC-
The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the D.

The war room fell hard for Jason Henderson, and it showed at Round 7, Pick 22: 94 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Getting Schwesinger where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Travis Hunter
In pick 4 they get a potential shutdown corner at fair value.
Pick38 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
The board had Colston Loveland higher than pick No. 38, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They reached a country mile for Donovan Ezeiruaku at the Round 2 slot, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69 Rnd3 Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at slot 69 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Charles Grant well ahead of where he belonged. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick105 Rnd4 Savion Williams
Savion Williams at No. 105 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick132 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore at pick No. 132 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick136 Rnd4 Carson Schwesinger
They barely believed it either: Carson Schwesinger still on the board at No. 136. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick145 Rnd5 Kalel Mullings
They will replay Kalel Mullings at the 145th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick176 Rnd5 Chase Lundt
Good price on Chase Lundt in the 176th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick219 Rnd7 CJ West
By-the-book stuff, CJ West at Round 7, Pick 1 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick222 Rnd7 Shaun Dolac
They reached into another round for Shaun Dolac, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jason Henderson
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jason Henderson in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick256 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
Marcus Yarns slipping to slot 256 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It fills a real need, too.
