FutureB
Nobody dealt better than the Giants this weekend: B+. Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Aeneas Peebles at pick 105 is 38 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. With safety and edge rusher unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them. Walker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 12th pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick13
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In No. 13 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in Round 2, Pick 2 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
The board fumbled Jalon Walker all the way to the 44th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick65
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
By-the-book stuff, Maxwell Hairston at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Omarr Norman-Lott
Good price on Omarr Norman-Lott in slot 76, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jeffrey Bassa
A surprising call. With safety and edge rusher still to address, they spent the 99th pick on Jeffrey Bassa, a linebacker they were not short of.
Pick105
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
They reached a country mile for Aeneas Peebles at the Round 4 slot, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jake Briningstool
A reach for Jake Briningstool in slot 154; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
Pick219
Rnd7
Donovan Edwards
They read the board right and Donovan Edwards was the payoff at Round 7, Pick 3. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick246
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa at No. 246 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
