Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB+
Beck is the Cowboys' new face under center. Grade: D.

The Chip Trayanum pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 93 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down.

It is not that Williams is a bad player; it is that the Cowboys had louder needs to answer first. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

If one pick saves this weekend, it is Williams.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick7 Rnd1 Carson Beck
In pick No. 7 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
Pick26 Rnd1 JT Tuimoloau
In No. 26 they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick39 Rnd2 Emery Jones Jr.
Good price on Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 2 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick58 Rnd2 Tate Ratledge
They paid sticker price for Tate Ratledge in the 58th pick, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick62 Rnd2 Mykel Williams
They bypassed pressing needs at tight end and interior defensive lineman to take Mykel Williams, an edge rusher that was not the priority.
Pick71 Rnd3 Nic Anderson
A reach on Nic Anderson in the 71st overall pick; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90 Rnd3 Smael Mondon Jr.
They paid a round early for Smael Mondon Jr. in the 90th pick, more than the board wanted. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91 Rnd3 Raheim Sanders
A reach for Raheim Sanders in the 91st overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick97 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
Nothing to complain about; J. Michael Sturdivant went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick122 Rnd4 Davison Igbinosun
A conviction pick on Davison Igbinosun at Round 4, Pick 26 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick154 Rnd5 Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim is a better player than pick No. 154 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick186 Rnd6 Chip Trayanum
A real head-scratcher, Chip Trayanum in pick 186 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
