Neal should have been long gone. The 49ers pounced, and earned a B+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the 49ers were there to profit. Devin Neal, the No. 82 name on the board, should have been long gone before Round 4, Pick 11. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.

In the 20th overall pick they get a double-digit-sack hope. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick44 Rnd2 Derrick Harmon
Derrick Harmon at slot 44 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick51 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery in pick 51 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
They read the board right and Donovan Jackson was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 11. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick80 Rnd3 Deone Walker
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Deone Walker. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick100 Rnd3 Sebastian Castro
The board had Sebastian Castro higher than the Round 3 slot, and the safety fell to them anyway. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick113 Rnd4 Devin Neal
They will replay Devin Neal at the 113th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Dorian Strong
Dorian Strong at No. 117 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick138 Rnd4 Cody Simon
A tidy little value on Cody Simon in slot 138, a step better than break-even. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick147 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
They paid sticker price for Pat Bryant in the 147th overall pick, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick149 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
They let Malachi Moore come to them and pounced at No. 149. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick160 Rnd5 Trevor Etienne
A slide stopped in Round 5, Pick 22, with Trevor Etienne worth more than the price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
