Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B for the Patriots. Call it larceny. Kris Abrams-Draine sat on the board until Round 6, Pick 7, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
Pick34
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Chop Robinson in the 34th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68
Rnd3
Devontez Walker
They robbed the room for Devontez Walker here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
Good price on Blake Fisher in the 103rd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
James Williams
They did well to land James Williams in slot 139, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick182
Rnd6
Kris Abrams-Draine
The board fumbled Kris Abrams-Draine all the way to No. 182, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick224
Rnd7
Isaiah Neyor
Nothing to complain about; Isaiah Neyor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in pick No. 232 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
