Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Texans for Moss: D.

There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Texans started one anyway for Mykel Williams, 63 picks ahead of schedule. It grades a D, and the process earned it.

The Moss value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.

For all the activity, offensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. Adding Trey Smith by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In the 31st overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Deone Walker
They will replay Deone Walker at the 61st pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick94 Rnd3 Devin Neal
Devin Neal in the Round 3 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick97 Rnd3 Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori is a better player than No. 97 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick101 Rnd3 Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at the 101st overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick116 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
They reached a country mile for Gunnar Helm at the 116th pick, and the board is aghast. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick130 Rnd4 Mykel Williams
Mykel Williams at pick No. 130 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick162 Rnd5 Miller Moss
They robbed the room for Miller Moss here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick243 Rnd7 Francisco Mauigoa
This one needs a full-page explanation: Francisco Mauigoa in No. 243, miles early. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
