Draft Grade — 49ers

A solid, sensible weekend for the 49ers: B-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent slot 252 on Garrett Dellinger, a name most had 32 spots down the list.

Landing Ferguson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the 11th pick they get a blindside protector, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at pick 43 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100 Rnd3 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at Round 3, Pick 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick113 Rnd4 Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson at No. 113 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138 Rnd4 Ty Robinson
A wild overpay on Ty Robinson in pick No. 138, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson at Round 5, Pick 9 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick187 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
A tidy bit of business in the 187th overall pick, where Cobee Bryant graded well above the range. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick226 Rnd7 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker slid further than he should have, and slot 226 is lovely value for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick230 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
They jumped the gun on Ty Hamilton, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Brady Cook
Brady Cook at pick 249 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
A real head-scratcher, Garrett Dellinger in the Round 7 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
