Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Texans won the night they stopped Edwards from sliding. Grade: B.

Somebody in the 236th pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Texans sat still while Donovan Edwards, the No. 203 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

If Lambert-Smith pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In pick 25 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick58 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
Donovan Ezeiruaku at Round 2, Pick 26 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the edge rusher. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick79 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in pick No. 79 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
Pick89 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick166 Rnd5 KeAndre Lambert-Smith
KeAndre Lambert-Smith at the 166th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick236 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Taking Donovan Edwards in the 236th pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick241 Rnd7 John Williams
John Williams at No. 241 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It fills a real need, too.
