FutureB+
The 49ers won the night they stopped Sanders from sliding. Grade: B+. You build a draft on nights like this. T.J. Sanders had no business being available in pick No. 249, and the 49ers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Travis Hunter
In the 15th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Pick66
Rnd3
Wyatt Milum
Wyatt Milum at Round 3, Pick 2 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Cam Ward
Cam Ward in the 84th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick100
Rnd3
Ashton Jeanty
You do not let a running back like Ashton Jeanty reach slot 100 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Aireontae Ersery
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 113 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick137
Rnd4
Walter Nolen
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick156
Rnd5
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild in pick 156 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick190
Rnd6
Jake Majors
Jake Majors in pick No. 190 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick195
Rnd6
Jihaad Campbell
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 195 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Pick220
Rnd7
Tre Harris
Circle this one: Tre Harris at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick222
Rnd7
Trey Amos
Taking Trey Amos in slot 222 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick233
Rnd7
Mason Taylor
Steal is underselling it; Mason Taylor at pick 233 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249
Rnd7
T.J. Sanders
T.J. Sanders at the 249th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick254
Rnd7
Malachi Moore
They robbed the room for Malachi Moore here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
