Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall

FutureB
The Steelers let Smith fall into their laps, and walked away with a B+. Call it larceny. Tykee Smith sat on the board until the Round 6 slot, and the Steelers did not need to be asked twice.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Steelers indulged a want in Paul while a need in edge rusher, cornerback and other spots stayed open.
The Thrash pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 31st pick they get a blindside protector at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick51
Rnd2
Adonai Mitchell
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Adonai Mitchell in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick63
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick 63 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick84
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
They bypassed pressing needs at edge rusher, cornerback and other spots to take Patrick Paul, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick101
Rnd4
Renardo Green
Renardo Green in the 101st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick119
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
They paid up for Jamari Thrash at pick No. 119 when waiting would have done the job. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick178
Rnd6
Jordan Travis
A tidy little value on Jordan Travis in No. 178, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick195
Rnd6
Tykee Smith
The board fumbled Tykee Smith all the way to slot 195, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
