FutureB
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Steelers a B+. The real work happened on the phones. The Steelers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
They are betting Eboigbe proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Green falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. It is not that Van Pran is a bad player; it is that the Steelers had louder needs to answer first.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick51
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
A slide stopped in slot 51, with Keon Coleman worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A surprising call. With quarterback, running back and other spots still to address, they spent No. 69 on Sedrick Van Pran, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick84
Rnd3
Max Melton
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Max Melton at pick 84. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick98
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green at pick No. 98 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick103
Rnd4
Maason Smith
A conviction pick on Maason Smith at the 103rd overall pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick108
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in the 108th pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick119
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
Value said wait; Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 19 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick178
Rnd6
Cornelius Johnson
A reach on Cornelius Johnson in the 178th pick; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick195
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
Drake Nugent in the Round 6 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
