Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureC
Larceny in pick 85 lands the 49ers a B, Washington and all.

Somebody in the Round 3 slot was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while A'Mauri Washington, the No. 37 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick58 Rnd2 Omarion Miller
A straight-up fair deal on Omarion Miller at the 58th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick85 Rnd3 A'Mauri Washington
A'Mauri Washington in the 85th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick93 Rnd3 Raylen Wilson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Raylen Wilson in the Round 3 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick99 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
They let Kade Pieper come to them and pounced at slot 99. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127 Rnd4 Iapani Laloulu
Iapani Laloulu in pick No. 127 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick133 Rnd4 Walker Lyons
Walker Lyons at No. 133 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick138 Rnd4 Mateen Ibirogba
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Mateen Ibirogba. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick165 Rnd5 Amare Thomas
No edge and no loss on Amare Thomas in Round 5, Pick 27; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick167 Rnd5 King Mack
They read the board right and King Mack was the payoff at No. 167. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jacob Ponton
They took Jacob Ponton at par in pick No. 171, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick178 Rnd5 C.J. Fite
They went early on C.J. Fite in the Round 5 slot, and the value did not follow. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick232 Rnd7 Xavier Chaplin
Xavier Chaplin at Round 7, Pick 16 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
