Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
Larceny in pick No. 149 lands the Cowboys a B+, Phillips and all.

The Cowboys spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jordan Phillips, the No. 106 name on the board, in the 149th pick. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Nico Collins deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick44 Rnd2 Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at pick No. 44 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76 Rnd3 Isaiah Bond
No drama and no debate, Isaiah Bond went about where he belonged in No. 76. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick149 Rnd5 Jordan Phillips
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Jordan Phillips in the Round 5 slot, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
Taking Brashard Smith in Round 5, Pick 33 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Seth McLaughlin in slot 174. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick204 Rnd6 JJ Pegues
They barely believed it either: JJ Pegues still on the board at pick 204. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick211 Rnd6 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks at the 211th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick239 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson slipping to the 239th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick247 Rnd7 John Williams
No edge and no loss on John Williams in Round 7, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
