Verniner DRAFTING FOR THE49ers

Grand theft in the 139th overall pick: the 49ers steal Henderson and grade out a B+. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how TreVeyon Henderson got past him. The 49ers do not have to explain a thing at Round 5, Pick 2. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Will Campbell
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get protection for the quarterback at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick21
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
In the 21st overall pick they get a true top target at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick43
Rnd2
Derrick Harmon
Value with a capital V on Derrick Harmon in pick 43, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
A linebacker of that caliber at the 75th pick is the definition of value, full stop. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Sebastian Castro
Somehow Sebastian Castro was still sitting there in No. 111, and they pounced on premier safety value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick137
Rnd4
Jake Majors
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the Round 4 slot, and they scooped it up. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick139
Rnd5
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson at pick No. 139 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick226
Rnd7
Miles Frazier
A straight-up fair deal on Miles Frazier at slot 226, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick230
Rnd7
Clay Webb
By-the-book stuff, Clay Webb at Round 7, Pick 14 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
