Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The 49ers put a flag in the ground for Elijah Roberts, 70 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.

That Moore pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In the 11th pick they get a blindside protector. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A quiet steal in slot 34: Kenneth Grant for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick43 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
By-the-book stuff, JT Tuimoloau at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tre Harris
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tre Harris at Round 3, Pick 11. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick99 Rnd3 Jared Wilson
They took Jared Wilson at par in the 99th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick100 Rnd3 Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones at No. 100 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick113 Rnd4 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts at slot 113 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick143 Rnd5 Ty Robinson
A wild overpay on Ty Robinson in pick 143, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick147 Rnd5 Kyle Williams
They will replay Kyle Williams at No. 147 for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169 Rnd5 Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in the 169th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick173 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
O'Donnell Fortune in the 173rd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick206 Rnd6 Jay Higgins
Jay Higgins in the Round 6 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick215 Rnd6 Carson Vinson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Carson Vinson well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick227 Rnd7 Jermari Harris
The board had cheaper options than Jermari Harris at Round 7, Pick 11, and it noticed. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick249 Rnd7 Garrett Dellinger
They reached into another round for Garrett Dellinger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
