Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedA-
TradesF
FutureB
A passer of the future in Daniels, and a D, for the Cardinals. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Cardinals, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Schrader.
Job largely done: quarterback settled and 7 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 2nd overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a franchise quarterback. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tyler Guyton
They let Tyler Guyton come to them and pounced at No. 36. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
They will replay Payton Wilson at the 71st pick for years; that is how good the value is. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick 90 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick105
Rnd4
Caelen Carson
Value with a capital V on Caelen Carson in pick No. 105, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick111
Rnd4
Brenden Rice
A slide stopped in slot 111, with Brenden Rice worth more than the price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick137
Rnd5
Mohamed Kamara
Fair-plus on Mohamed Kamara, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick161
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
They paid sticker price for Trevor Keegan in No. 161, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick188
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Somehow Cody Schrader was still sitting there in the Round 6 slot, and they pounced on premier running back value. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick222
Rnd7
Tanner McLachlan
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tanner McLachlan. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick224
Rnd7
Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in slot 224 is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick241
Rnd7
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Javontae Jean-Baptiste is a better player than the 241st pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
