Draft Grade — Raiders

FutureB-
A franchise passer in Simpson headlines a B- weekend for the Raiders. The Austin Barber pick is the one that will follow the Raiders into the fall. They took him 63 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They have staked the next five years on Ty Simpson, which is the only story that really matters here. However the rest shakes out, Lew at that price is a win they earned.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Ty Simpson
In Round 1, Pick 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick36
Rnd2
Austin Barber
A real head-scratcher, Austin Barber in No. 36 is miles ahead of his ranking. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick67
Rnd3
Josiah Trotter
Josiah Trotter in pick 67 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick102
Rnd4
Sam Roush
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Sam Roush at the Round 4 slot. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117
Rnd4
Connor Lew
Somehow Connor Lew was still sitting there in pick No. 117, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jakobe Thomas
No drama and no debate, Jakobe Thomas went about where he belonged in the 134th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick175
Rnd5
Davison Igbinosun
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Davison Igbinosun in pick 175, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick182
Rnd6
Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts at the 182nd overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185
Rnd6
Cole Payton
They talked themselves into Cole Payton at slot 185, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick219
Rnd7
Kobe Baynes
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 7 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
