Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the 49ers, and a B- to prove it.

The Jamaree Caldwell pick is the one that will follow the 49ers into the fall. They took him 86 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

The Gordon II steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Will Johnson
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a ballhawk on the outside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick43 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at No. 43 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jalen Royals
Jalen Royals at pick No. 75 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at pick 99 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick112 Rnd4 Hollin Pierce
They paid sticker price for Hollin Pierce in slot 112, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick138 Rnd4 Anthony Belton
Anthony Belton in the Round 4 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick148 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for JJ Pegues. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176 Rnd5 Phil Mafah
They read the board right and Phil Mafah was the payoff at pick No. 176. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick185 Rnd6 Luke Lachey
Luke Lachey in No. 185 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick189 Rnd6 Kyle Monangai
No edge and no loss on Kyle Monangai in pick 189; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick228 Rnd7 Jamaree Caldwell
They reached into another round for Jamaree Caldwell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick232 Rnd7 Ollie Gordon II
Somehow Ollie Gordon II was still sitting there in slot 232, and they pounced on premier running back value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick255 Rnd7 Elijhah Badger
They left a pile of value on the table to take Elijhah Badger this early at the 255th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
