Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The 49ers turned the phones into found money: B+.

Nobody had Xavier Truss this high, and it is not close. The 49ers reached 43 spots to get him at slot 252. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.

The phones were where this weekend was really won. That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. Adding Myles Bryant by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
Nothing to complain about; Walter Nolen went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick33 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
A tidy bit of business in No. 33, where Jalon Walker graded well above the range. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick43 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A reasonable price with a little left over, Tyler Booker in the 43rd pick. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams in pick 75 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick89 Rnd3 Charles Grant
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Charles Grant. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Chris Paul Jr.
They read the board right and Chris Paul Jr. was the payoff at the 94th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick113 Rnd4 Cam Skattebo
No edge and no loss on Cam Skattebo in pick 113; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick138 Rnd4 Jonas Sanker
Jonas Sanker at the 138th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick147 Rnd5 LeQuint Allen
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and LeQuint Allen at No. 147 is the proof. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick160 Rnd5 JJ Pegues
A wild overpay on JJ Pegues in the 160th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick166 Rnd5 CJ West
They reached a country mile for CJ West at pick No. 166, and the board is aghast. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
A straight-up fair deal on Isaac TeSlaa at Round 7, Pick 11, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick249 Rnd7 Nick Martin
Nick Martin at slot 249 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252 Rnd7 Xavier Truss
A real head-scratcher, Xavier Truss in pick No. 252 is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
