Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
F
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesF
FutureD-
The Seahawks answered their biggest question with Nix. Grade: F. If confidence were a draft strategy, the Seahawks would have aced it. Hayden Hatten at pick No. 236 is 65 spots clear of where he belonged. About as rough as the board gets, and a F to prove it.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The whole projection now runs through Bo Nix; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with linebacker still on the board.
Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here; this class has to massively overperform just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In the 6th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick16
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
Bo Nix
In the 18th pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
They did well to land Chris Braswell in the Round 2 slot, just ahead of his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 49 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick51
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
No drama and no debate, Ja'Tavion Sanders went about where he belonged in slot 51. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick70
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the 70th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick78
Rnd3
Maason Smith
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Maason Smith adds a DT-EDGE and leaves linebacker untouched.
Pick80
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A conviction pick on Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 16 that the board grades a round light. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81
Rnd3
Javon Solomon
A curious use of slot 81. Linebacker needed the pick; an OLB-EDGE in Javon Solomon did not.
Pick107
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
They liked Ainias Smith enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick115
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They paid up for Javon Foster at No. 115 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick118
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
They reached into another round for Luke McCaffrey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick119
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at the 119th pick, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick151
Rnd5
Justin Rogers
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Rogers at the 151st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick154
Rnd5
Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick194
Rnd6
J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at No. 194 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jaden Crumedy
They paid a round early for Jaden Crumedy in pick 216, more than the board wanted. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
Pick218
Rnd6
Stefon Thompson
A reach for Stefon Thompson in pick No. 218; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Pick236
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
A real head-scratcher, Hayden Hatten in slot 236 is miles ahead of his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
