Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D
ValueA- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Texans let Scourton fall into their laps, and walked away with a D.

The Texans lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Sheppard pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Landing Scourton that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

They left with running back solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the 24th pick they get a cornerstone up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick32 Rnd1 Harold Perkins Jr.
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker, and a steal at that.
Pick41 Rnd2 Nic Scourton
They will replay Nic Scourton at slot 41 for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Nice patience on Tyler Booker, who had no business lasting to the 56th overall pick. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick88 Rnd3 Sonny Styles
A clean, defensible pick in No. 88 with a little surplus value in Sonny Styles. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick96 Rnd3 Devin Neal
Devin Neal at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick120 Rnd4 Bear Alexander
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Bear Alexander reach pick No. 120 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick155 Rnd5 Will Sheppard
They liked Will Sheppard enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 155. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick216 Rnd7 Zy Alexander
By-the-book stuff, Zy Alexander at slot 216 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
