Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB+ FutureC
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B.

Start where it matters. The Bears took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

Landing Harrison Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In No. 1 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick36 Rnd2 Marvin Harrison Jr.
Somehow Marvin Harrison Jr. was still sitting there in the 36th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick66 Rnd3 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac in the 66th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kingsley Suamataia
A tidy bit of business in slot 71, where Kingsley Suamataia graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick75 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A slide stopped in the Round 3 slot, with Christian Haynes worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick78 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
Nice patience on Kamren Kinchens, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 14. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick90 Rnd3 Max Melton
They let Max Melton come to them and pounced at pick 90. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick104 Rnd4 Maason Smith
Maason Smith in pick No. 104 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at the 122nd pick is the proof. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick138 Rnd5 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at the 138th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick162 Rnd5 Jared Wiley
No edge and no loss on Jared Wiley in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick186 Rnd6 Fabien Lovett
A straight-up fair deal on Fabien Lovett at No. 186, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick226 Rnd7 JD Bertrand
JD Bertrand in pick 226 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
