Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesD+ FutureA
The Bears checked most of the boxes and earned a B-.

The Bears did not so much draft Brenden Rice as overpay for him, 28 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.

A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. The Bears indulged a want in Hunt while a need in running back, cornerback and other spots stayed open. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at Round 2, Pick 7 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick47 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at the 47th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick75 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
A real head-scratcher, Dominick Puni in No. 75 is miles ahead of his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick108 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They paid a round early for Darius Robinson in pick 108, more than the board wanted. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111 Rnd4 Jalyx Hunt
They bypassed pressing needs at running back, cornerback and other spots to take Jalyx Hunt, a S-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick123 Rnd4 Ben Sinnott
They talked themselves into Ben Sinnott at slot 123, and the board did not agree. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick143 Rnd5 Luke McCaffrey
No edge and no loss on Luke McCaffrey in No. 143; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
