Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA FutureB-
The Bears let Paul Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B+.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Chris Paul Jr. got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at pick 193. No fireworks, but a solid B+.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Lachey has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In slot 14 they get a building block for the line. A real need, handled.
Pick39 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
Value with a capital V on Kenneth Grant in the Round 2 slot, a genuine coup. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
Tyler Booker at No. 41 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick45 Rnd2 Kaleb Johnson
Kaleb Johnson at pick No. 45 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick72 Rnd3 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts in the 72nd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick147 Rnd5 Jake Majors
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Jake Majors in the 147th overall pick, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick193 Rnd6 Chris Paul Jr.
They barely believed it either: Chris Paul Jr. still on the board at Round 6, Pick 18. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick233 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They reached into another round for Luke Lachey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick240 Rnd7 Donovan Edwards
Donovan Edwards in No. 240 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
