Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB
Good, not great, for the Bears: B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Bears did exactly that with Jackson Woodard in the 233rd pick. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Pierce at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Trading back for volume was the quiet throughline of their weekend.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Mason Graham
In Round 1, Pick 10 they get a wrecking ball inside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41 Rnd2 Grey Zabel
Fair-plus on Grey Zabel, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick55 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Xavier Watts at No. 55. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick72 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Quinshon Judkins in the 72nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick86 Rnd3 Gunnar Helm
By-the-book stuff, Gunnar Helm at pick No. 86 squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick148 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at slot 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick149 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Good price on Pat Bryant in No. 149, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Pick233 Rnd7 Jackson Woodard
A wild overpay on Jackson Woodard in pick 233, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It fills a real need, too.
Pick240 Rnd7 Clay Webb
Clay Webb in pick No. 240 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
