Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 102 spots for Jackson Woodard, and value like that does not grow back. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Johnson falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In slot 14 they get a load in the middle, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It fills a real need, too.
Pick45 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Colston Loveland in No. 45 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick55 Rnd2 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts slid further than he should have, and pick No. 55 is lovely value for the safety. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick72 Rnd3 Kaleb Johnson
A running back of that caliber at the 72nd overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jake Majors
Jake Majors at the 125th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
They read the board right and Hollin Pierce was the payoff at No. 148. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick158 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Pat Bryant at pick 158. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick233 Rnd7 Ty Hamilton
A big swing on Ty Hamilton at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jackson Woodard
A wild overpay on Jackson Woodard in the 240th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The roster fit checks out.
