Draft Grade — Bears

Larceny in Round 1, Pick 27 lands the Bears a B, Latu and all.

You build a draft on nights like this. Laiatu Latu had no business being available in pick No. 27, and the Bears did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Bell has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but cornerback.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In pick 4 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
Olumuyiwa Fashanu at pick No. 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick27 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In the 27th pick they get a double-digit-sack hope, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They went early on Jackson Powers-Johnson in slot 35, and the value did not follow. It fills a real need, too.
Pick66 Rnd3 T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at the 66th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick75 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard slipping to the Round 3 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick110 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 10, with Zak Zinter worth more than the price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick122 Rnd4 Jaheim Bell
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaheim Bell in No. 122, miles early. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick146 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
A premium they did not need to pay, Braelon Allen a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
