Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA+
The Bears won the weekend at the trade table. Grade: A-. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Bears shredded theirs for Justin Rogers. He came off 37 spots early, and the room will hear about it. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The Jevon Holland deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Bottom line, with Kool-Aid McKinstry leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Kool-Aid McKinstry
In the 21st pick they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick22
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 22nd overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick75
Rnd3
Johnny Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at No. 75 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at Round 3, Pick 22 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110
Rnd4
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey at slot 110 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick120
Rnd4
Justin Rogers
A wild overpay on Justin Rogers in the 120th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick127
Rnd4
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A real head-scratcher, Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 127 is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick146
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
A premium they did not need to pay, LaDarius Henderson a notch or two before his time. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick186
Rnd6
Josh Proctor
They did well to land Josh Proctor in pick 186, just ahead of his grade. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick232
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
No drama and no debate, Maurice Smith went about where he belonged in the 232nd pick. The roster fit checks out.
