Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent slot 126 on Patrick Payton, a name the board had a full 56 spots lower.

Daniels falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
