FutureA+
Williams is the plan now, and the Bears grade out a D. Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
Everything downstream of Caleb Williams depends on Caleb Williams, and the building knows it. Landing Tracy Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick32
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In slot 32 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick64
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
They took Patrick Paul at par in the 64th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick69
Rnd3
Max Melton
Fair-plus on Max Melton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 11. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd at No. 104 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick106
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
No edge and no loss on Zak Zinter in the 106th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick111
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo in pick No. 111 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick123
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
They paid sticker price for Cedric Gray in Round 4, Pick 23, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick136
Rnd4
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the 136th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick143
Rnd5
Tyrone Tracy Jr.
They will replay Tyrone Tracy Jr. at slot 143 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick158
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Justin Eboigbe at pick 158. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
