The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Williams: D.

Somebody took the Bears to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Getting Brownlee Jr. where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

The DeMarcus Lawrence deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

It is a steep hill from here, and the grade knows it.
