Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueB- NeedA- TradesB+ FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Bears: B.

The Javontae Jean-Baptiste pick is the one that will follow the Bears into the fall. They took him 93 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

On value alone, Wilson makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
In slot 1 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick9 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the 9th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Somehow Payton Wilson was still sitting there in Round 3, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123 Rnd4 Matt Goncalves
A slide stopped in pick 123, with Matt Goncalves worth more than the price. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick134 Rnd4 Javontae Jean-Baptiste
Javontae Jean-Baptiste at pick No. 134 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick143 Rnd5 Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer in No. 143 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
