If confidence were a draft strategy, the Bears would have aced it. Ashton Gillotte at pick No. 49 is 47 spots clear of where he belonged. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.

Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Walter Nolen and all.
