Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB FutureA+
Grand theft in the 39th pick: the Bears steal Emmanwori and grade out a A-.

The weekend has a hole in the middle of it named edge rusher, a need the Bears walked right past. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.

That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The Lukas Van Ness pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

The trade work was a quiet net positive. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick Analysis
Pick39 Rnd2 Nick Emmanwori
They will replay Nick Emmanwori at Round 2, Pick 7 for years; that is how good the value is. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick41 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Value with a capital V on Omarion Hampton in slot 41, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick45 Rnd2 Josh Conerly Jr.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 45, where Josh Conerly Jr. graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
Pick54 Rnd2 T.J. Sanders
A slide stopped in No. 54, with T.J. Sanders worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72 Rnd3 Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick124 Rnd4 Emery Jones Jr.
Emery Jones Jr. in the 124th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick148 Rnd5 Pat Bryant
By-the-book stuff, Pat Bryant at the 148th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
Good price on O'Donnell Fortune in Round 5, Pick 21, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Craig Woodson
They let Craig Woodson come to them and pounced at the Round 7 slot. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick240 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Nice patience on Cam Jackson, who had no business lasting to No. 240. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
