Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
The Bears answered their biggest question with Maye. Grade: A-. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. They banked enough surplus on Taylor-Demerson to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Drake Maye
Drake Maye at slot 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick17
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
They paid sticker price for Taliese Fuaga in No. 17, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick34
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
A tidy little value on Quinyon Mitchell in the 34th pick, a step better than break-even. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick39
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette in pick 39 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick47
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 47th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick48
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
They went early on Chris Braswell in Round 2, Pick 16, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
No drama and no debate, Christian Haynes went about where he belonged in pick No. 75. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick79
Rnd3
Marist Liufau
A straight-up fair deal on Marist Liufau at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick108
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
They read the board right and Tykee Smith was the payoff at the 108th overall pick. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick111
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
They took Leonard Taylor III at par in slot 111, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 23 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick143
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at No. 143 squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick185
Rnd6
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson in pick No. 185 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
