Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
B+
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Seahawks won the night they stopped Tuten from sliding. Grade: B+. You could see the war room lean forward. Bhayshul Tuten at slot 223 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Muhammad has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In No. 20 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They let Jihaad Campbell come to them and pounced at pick No. 50. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick56
Rnd2
Donovan Jackson
They liked Donovan Jackson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 56. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick82
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jared Wilson this early at the 82nd pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick86
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker at Round 3, Pick 22 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick92
Rnd3
Darius Alexander
No drama and no debate, Darius Alexander went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick137
Rnd4
Will Howard
Will Howard at the 137th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
A reach on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in slot 172; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick175
Rnd5
Upton Stout
They paid a round early for Upton Stout in pick No. 175, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jabbar Muhammad
They talked themselves into Jabbar Muhammad at Round 6, Pick 23, and the board did not agree. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick223
Rnd7
Bhayshul Tuten
They will replay Bhayshul Tuten at No. 223 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234
Rnd7
Oronde Gadsden II
They robbed the room for Oronde Gadsden II here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
