Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB- TradesB- FutureB-
No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Steelers.

Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Mason McCormick at Round 4, Pick 19 is 27 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will answer for taking offensive lineman early while quarterback, safety and other spots went begging. They left with interior defensive lineman solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.

Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Amarius Mims
In the Round 1 slot they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. More want than need.
Pick51 Rnd2 Ricky Pearsall
They liked Ricky Pearsall enough to skip the value, taking him in slot 51. It fills a real need, too.
Pick84 Rnd3 Max Melton
A clean, defensible pick in the 84th overall pick with a little surplus value in Max Melton. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick98 Rnd3 Maason Smith
They went early on Maason Smith in No. 98, and the value did not follow. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick119 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, safety and other spots to take Mason McCormick, an offensive lineman that was not the priority.
Pick178 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
A premium they did not need to pay, Cornelius Johnson a notch or two before his time. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick195 Rnd6 Logan Lee
Logan Lee at the 195th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
