Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall B
ValueB NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
The Bengals robbed the room for Harris. Final grade: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Tre Harris, the No. 199 name on the board, stolen at the 254th pick. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Holker proves the room right and everyone else wrong.

Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 JC Latham
In pick 17 they get a cornerstone up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick49 Rnd2 Josh Newton
A slide stopped in slot 49, with Josh Newton worth more than the price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick81 Rnd3 Jermaine Burton
The board fumbled Jermaine Burton all the way to the 81st pick, and they scooped it up. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117 Rnd4 Audric Estime
The board had Audric Estime higher than pick No. 117, and the running back fell to them anyway. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick154 Rnd5 Dallin Holker
A reach for Dallin Holker in the Round 5 slot; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick173 Rnd5 Steve Linton
They went early on Steve Linton in the 173rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick195 Rnd6 Jacob Cowing
Jacob Cowing in Round 6, Pick 20 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ben Bywater
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Ben Bywater in No. 238, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick254 Rnd7 Tre Harris
Tre Harris at No. 254 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
