Draft Grade — Bengals

FutureB-
Turner should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B-. When a board-topper like Dallas Turner slides to Round 2, Pick 24, you do not overthink it, and the Bengals did not. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
Every board in the league had Marks lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
JC Latham
In the 24th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick56
Rnd2
Dallas Turner
They will replay Dallas Turner at No. 56 for years; that is how good the value is. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick88
Rnd3
D.J. James
They let D.J. James come to them and pounced at pick 88. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Theo Wease
Theo Wease in the Round 4 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick161
Rnd5
Jo'Quavious Marks
Jo'Quavious Marks at the 161st pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Taking Billy Bowman Jr. in pick No. 173 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick202
Rnd6
Darius Robinson
They did well to land Darius Robinson in Round 6, Pick 27, just ahead of his grade. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick245
Rnd7
Benjamin Yurosek
Benjamin Yurosek at slot 245 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick254
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten at the 254th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
