Oz DRAFTING FOR THEBengals
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall
B
ValueB
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Bengals robbed the room for Dorlus. Final grade: B. You build a draft on nights like this. Brandon Dorlus had no business being available in pick No. 81, and the Bengals did the only sane thing and turned in the card. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. The Robinson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a go-to option on the outside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick49
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
Patrick Paul at slot 49 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick81
Rnd3
Brandon Dorlus
They robbed the room for Brandon Dorlus here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick117
Rnd4
Max Melton
Circle this one: Max Melton at No. 117 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick154
Rnd5
Dallin Holker
A straight-up fair deal on Dallin Holker at pick No. 154, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick173
Rnd5
Gabriel Murphy
Value with a capital V on Gabriel Murphy in the Round 5 slot, a genuine coup. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick195
Rnd6
Bru McCoy
A quiet steal in the 195th pick: Bru McCoy for less than the market said. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick238
Rnd7
Storm Duck
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Storm Duck at the 238th overall pick is the proof. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick254
Rnd7
Layden Robinson
They went early on Layden Robinson in No. 254, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
