The tape said wait; the Bears did not. Caden Prieskorn went at Round 7, Pick 17, a good 125 picks before the board was ready. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The veteran additions, Jonathan Taylor chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
