Draft Grade — Bengals
Overall C+

A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The Bengals get a C+.

The Bengals torched the value chart for Trey Moore, taking him 104 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.

It is not that Baron is a bad player; it is that the Bengals had louder needs to answer first. Ayomanor falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.

The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Hit on Jack Sawyer and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In the 17th overall pick they get a bendy edge with upside. Need was not the driver here.
Pick49 Rnd2 Tyler Baron
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went edge rusher with Tyler Baron while clear needs at cornerback, tight end and other spots sat open.
Pick81 Rnd3 David Walker
A curious use of pick No. 81. Cornerback, tight end and other spots needed the pick; an edge rusher in David Walker did not.
Pick117 Rnd4 Elic Ayomanor
They robbed the room for Elic Ayomanor here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick152 Rnd5 Trey Moore
They talked themselves into Trey Moore at slot 152, and the board did not agree. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick191 Rnd6 Tonka Hemingway
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Tonka Hemingway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
