FutureB-
Majors should have been long gone. The Bengals pounced, and earned a B+. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bengals watched Jake Majors slide 59 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The cost of the Ivey reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In the 25th overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick49
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Nick Emmanwori at the 49th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jared Ivey in No. 54, miles early. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick81
Rnd3
Demetrius Knight Jr.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at Round 3, Pick 17 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick89
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
They barely believed it either: Dylan Sampson still on the board at slot 89. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick97
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
Taking Gunnar Helm in pick 97 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick117
Rnd4
Rylie Mills
Rylie Mills in pick No. 117 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick152
Rnd5
Jake Majors
The board fumbled Jake Majors all the way to the Round 5 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick191
Rnd6
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in slot 191 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
