Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
F
ValueB-
NeedB-
TradesF
FutureD-
The Seahawks went off-script early, and it cost them a F. Somebody took the Seahawks to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it. The board sounded every alarm, and the F is the fallout.
Spending an early pick on TE-EDGE with quarterback and running back open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. They are betting Frazier proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left quarterback open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptive interior force at fair value.
Pick13
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 13 they get an island corner. More want than need.
Pick18
Rnd1
JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick39
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
A tidy little value on Chop Robinson in the 39th pick, a step better than break-even. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick43
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat at the 43rd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It fills a real need, too.
Pick44
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
This one needs a full-page explanation: Zach Frazier in pick 44, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick70
Rnd3
Junior Colson
They took Junior Colson at par in slot 70, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick78
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick80
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at the 80th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick81
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves quarterback and running back untouched.
Pick107
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
A surprising call. With quarterback and running back still to address, they spent pick 107 on Khyree Jackson, a cornerback they were not short of.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ainias Smith
No drama and no debate, Ainias Smith went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at the 113th overall pick that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick115
Rnd4
James Williams
They reached a country mile for James Williams at No. 115, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jalyx Hunt
A curious use of pick No. 118. Quarterback and running back needed the pick; a S-EDGE in Jalyx Hunt did not.
Pick154
Rnd5
Kitan Oladapo
A premium they did not need to pay, Kitan Oladapo a notch or two before his time. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick189
Rnd6
AJ Barner
A straight-up fair deal on AJ Barner at pick 189, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jaylen Harrell
Jaylen Harrell in slot 194 is fair value, right on his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick236
Rnd7
Maurice Smith
They paid a round early for Maurice Smith in pick No. 236, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
