Draft Grade — Saints
Overall B
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Saints turned the phones into found money: B.

The Saints clearly saw something nobody else did in Jalen McLeod, taking him 84 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Knight Jr. value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick 23 they get a red-zone target to build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Trey Amos
No drama and no debate, Trey Amos went about where he belonged in No. 45. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick49 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at pick No. 49 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick54 Rnd2 Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at Round 2, Pick 22 squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jack Bech
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jack Bech in the 71st pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81 Rnd3 Demetrius Knight Jr.
Circle this one: Demetrius Knight Jr. at the 81st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick87 Rnd3 Deone Walker
Deone Walker in slot 87 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick93 Rnd3 Terrance Ferguson
Value said wait; Terrance Ferguson in No. 93 says they were not listening. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick112 Rnd4 Malachi Moore
They reached into another round for Malachi Moore, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick117 Rnd4 Jalen McLeod
Jalen McLeod at Round 4, Pick 15 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick131 Rnd4 Brashard Smith
No edge and no loss on Brashard Smith in the 131st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184 Rnd6 Willie Lampkin
They read the board right and Willie Lampkin was the payoff at the Round 6 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248 Rnd7 Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at pick 248 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick254 Rnd7 Andrew Armstrong
Andrew Armstrong in the 254th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
